American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Anesthesia standards and guidelines.

Many of the state regulations, as well as the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Guidelines, require adherence to standards and guidelines established by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). The ACS has published their Guidelines for Optimal Ambulatory Surgical Care and Office-Based Surgery publication which is available on their website.

Accreditation Organizations for Office-Based Surgery

Some of the state regulations require that office-based surgery facilities be accredited through an outside organization. There are three outside organizations: Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF), in addition to Medicare or the American Medical Accreditation Program (AMAP).
